#Worlds2018: Ecuador

This year the World Championships will be held in the Netherlands, in Heerde and Arnhem. In our series #Worlds2018 we will talk to skaters from all over the world and find out who they are, if they’re gonna make it to Worlds and what skatinglife is like in their own country.

In the second edition: Maria Loreto Arias and Maria Victoria Vinuesa from Ecuador

At the Holland Cup in Heerde there are two skaters from Ecuador: Maria Loreto Arias junior (16) ‘Lore’ and Maria Victoria Vinuesa (17)

Victoria has already been here two years ago for the Holland Cup, and also skated in Geisingen and Gross-Gerau then. This year they are only coming to Heerde, mainly to check out the track for Worlds.

Do you like the track? “Yes, we like the track, it’s very fast. There’s a Vesmaco track in Ecuador too, in Guayaquil.”

They have both qualified for Wolds, their goal is to get a podium place, and qualify for the Youth Olympics (Argentina 2018)

Is it difficult to qualify for the worlds in Ecuador? “There are not so many skaters, but all of them are really good, so it is difficult.”

Lore finished 2nd in the sprint classification. She likes the sprint better but will start in all the races this weekend. Later that evening they both race the points race and on Sunday both make it to the final of the elimination race.

What do you think of Holland? “It’s very green everywhere, a lot of trees also in cities. And there are soooo many bikes. We have bikes too, for training, but here people really use them for transportation.”

Update: Maria Victoria Vinuesa has since then pulled back from the selection for Worlds and will not come the Heerde.
